Shiatsu Yoga Centre (Nationally Accredited Trainer)

Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy that has its roots in Oriental medical massage practices that are over 5000 years old.

The word Shiatsu literally means 'finger pressure'. It is a natural, manual therapy that enriches the lives of all who encounter it. Shiatsu is not merely a method of applying physical pressure to the body, but involves the total communication of therapist and patient through the use of skillful hand touch and compassion.

In a Shiatsu treatment, comfortable pressure is applied to all parts of the body with thumbs, palms, and elbows, and the body is gently stretched to loosen joints and muscles. Shiatsu treatments promote good health by strengthening the body and stimulating its self-healing abilities. Common conditions that Shiatsu treatments have been used to help are back, neck and shoulder aches and pains, headaches, insomnia, digestive problems, and emotional stress. People also use Shiatsu to relieve minor health problems before they become chronic.

In Japan, Shiatsu therapists follow a three-year course of study and write government licensing exams in order to practice. Simple Shiatsu can be learned by anyone and used as a 'home remedy' to help family and friends..

You can also pursue the study to become an expert therapist.

A separate but important course that you can participate in at the Shiatsu Yoga Centre is Shiatsu Yoga which utilizes the specific accupressure points of the body and stimulates the meridians by the combined use of this pressure massage and stretching the body in specific Yogic poses. This combination is especially successful for self-treatment of various physical conditions.

In addition, Shiatsu is as often successfully incorporated to treat a series of non-muscular conditions such as asthma, tinnitus, diabetes, and menopause. Furthermore, due to the fact that the meridians run through the main organs of the body, various organ-related complications such as liver, lung and spleen conditions are also often treated with Shiatsu.

Pre and post surgery ailments can often be reduced by the regular treatment of an experienced practitioner.
